Honorary Membership Policy

Oswego Rotary Honorary Membership Policy.

The Honorary Membership Committee recommended that our Honorary Membership policy be revised to include the provisions below and the policy was adopted by the Board of Directors on January 7, 2010.

  • Any member may propose an honorary member. Our standard proposal form should be used. It has a box to check to indicate that it is for honorary membership. The form should contain information about the individual’s work or contributions to justify consideration for honorary membership. The justification must be written in one paragraph which will be displayed with the listing of names on the website.
  • Proposals should be given to the Honorary Membership Committee by the last Rotary meeting in April. Members should be reminded in advance of the opportunity to make proposals.
  • The Committee may make additional proposals and must present its recommendation to the Board of Directors at its June meeting.
  • The proposals approved by the Board should be presented to the membership at the next regular meeting.
  • Those elected to honorary membership must be notified and invited to the Changing of the Guard meeting where they will be introduced and presented with honorary member lapel pins.
  • The honorary members of our club will be listed on our website and included in The Axle. The listings will indicate those who were elected in the current Rotary year and those who were elected previously. The listings will be accompanied by a brief explanation of honorary membership and the listing on the website will include a description of the contributions of each honorary member.
  • Names of persons elected to honorary membership will be carried on the list unless removed by the Board of Directors.
